Configure an Email Account in Outlook Express

Tutorials / How To's > Configuring Email Clients
This tutorial assumes that you’ve already created your new email account in your web hosting, typically through your hosting control panel. Now let’s learn how to setup that new email account in Outlook Express.
  1. Start by clicking the Tools > Accounts.
  2. The Internet Accounts window appears. Click the Add button then click Mail.
  3. Enter the Name as you would like it to appear in the From field of outgoing emails. Then click Next.
  4. Now enter your new email address. Then click Next.
  5. Now you have to enter your Incoming (POP3) and Outgoing (SMTP) server names. These server names will have been provided to you in your welcome email and often times are simply Click Next.
  6. Now enter the email username as provided to you by your hosting provider. This may be the entire email address or just the username prefix.
  7. Then enter your email password. Click Next.
  8. Click Finish to complete the setup wizard.
  9. At this point we are almost done, but first let’s go finish configuring the email properties.
  10. Select the email you just created. Then click Properties button.
  11. Change the name of the email account to something more recognizable. Enter an Organization if applicable. Then enter a Reply To address.
  12. Click on the Servers tab. Tick the box for SMTP Authentication. This means that Outlook Express will login to your mail server even when sending emails (not just receiving), ensuring that you are the only one that can send emails from your account. Then click Settings.
  13. Most SMTP servers use the same username and password as the incoming (POP3) servers, so just leave this selected. Then click OK.
  14. Click Apply so the changes take effect. Then click OK.
  15. That’s it! We’ve successfully setup an email account and can now start sending and receiving email to and from that account from Outlook Express.
  16. Click the Close button to exit setup.
  17. Remember that you also have to create that email address in your hosting account before it will work.
